The Nations League 2022/23 kicks off today with the celebration of the league phase draw. Spain, finalist in the last edition after falling to France in the final with that controversial goal by Mbappé, will be seeded, so will avoid the other three teams that reached the last Final Four of the tournament, that is, Belgium and Italy as well as France itself.
The great dangers for Luis Enrique’s National Team are found in drums 2 and 3. In the first of them they are framed a Germany in the process of rebuilding at the hands of Hansi Flick and Cristiano’s Portugal, without a doubt, the two great coconuts to avoid. In addition, Pot 2 also includes Denmark, the semifinalist of the last European Championship and the team with the fewest goals in the World Cup qualifying phase (they only conceded three goals in ten games), and the Netherlands. England, finalist of the last European Championship, is presented as the toughest rival in Pot 3, which also includes Poland, Switzerland and Croatia.
By last, in Pot 4 are the teams that were promoted in the last Nations League from League B to A: Wales, Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary.
The draw, which takes place at 6:00 p.m. in Montreux, will feature four groups of four teams each. The leaders of each group will contest the Final Four in 2023, while the last four will be relegated to League B. The qualifying format for EURO 2024 is yet to be confirmed and details of how teams could win playoff spots through this Nations League are unknown.
