German international Jürgen Grabowski, world champion in 1974, dies

FRANKFURT (GERMANY), March 11. (dpa/EP) –

The German international Jürgen Grabowski, world champion in 1974 and historic Eintracht Frankfurt player, died on Thursday at the age of 77, his wife confirmed to dpa.

Creative midfielder Grabowski played 44 times for West Germany and were European champions in 1972 before lifting the World Cup on home soil two years later. The final, a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, was played on his 30th birthday.

Grabowski spent his entire playing career at Eintracht Frankfurt, with whom he made 441 Bundesliga appearances. With the German team he won the 1980 UEFA Cup, as well as the 1974 and 1975 German Cups.
