MADRID, 11 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish athletes Gerard Descárrega and Adiaratou Iglesias have qualified for the 400 and 200 meter finals on Wednesday, respectively, on the third day of the Paralympic World Championships, which is taking place in Malta.

Descárrega managed to get into first place for the final of the 400 m T11 together with José Marvi, who replaces his usual guide Guille Rojo, injured in the first round played on Monday. In the same test, Eduardo Uceda failed to get into the final.

Meanwhile, the Galician Adiaratou Iglesias ran a great semifinal of the 200 m T13 (visually impaired) qualifying for the final that will also be held this Wednesday.

For their part, Sara Martínez, current Paralympic runner-up, and Sara Fernández competed in the T12 long jump (visually impaired) and were fifth and seventh, respectively, with distances of 4.98 meters and 4.62 meters.

In addition, Miriam Martínez, Paralympic runner-up at Tokyo 2020 in shot put, competed in the F/34 javelin throw (athletes with cerebral palsy), due to the worsening of her disability and her new classification. The athlete managed to surpass her personal best, placing ninth in her debut in this new category, in which she launches from a seated position.

Youngsters Winsdom Ikhiuwu and Joan Sirera ran the 100m T13 (Visually Impaired), though neither managed to rank in the world’s top eight. Also in the 100 meters, in this case T62 (physical disability), Alberto Ávila failed to qualify for the final of said test after running the preliminary round.
