Garbajosa: “From today the next 100 years of our history begin”

The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), Jorge Garbajosa, assured that “as of” this Monday “the next 100 years of our history begin”, thus celebrating the centenary of the federation and also remembering “so many people and organizations”. that have made Spain “one of the great references in the whole world”.

“And the day came. Within a year as special as this centenary, the day came when 100 years of history of our basketball were celebrated. I think it is the best day to remember so many people and organizations that have made Today Spain is one of the great references of basketball throughout the world and of sport in our country”, Garbajosa commented in a video of the FEB.

Not surprisingly, the current FEB was born on July 31, 1923 under the name of the National Basketball Federation. This is the date on which its promoters received official notification, from the Civil Government of Barcelona, ​​of the approval of its statutes. Weeks later, Fidel Bricall was named president, in whose gym basketball began to be practiced and spread.

“Clubs come to mind, people who left their souls and with all the emotion in the world. Amateur at first and increasingly professionalized later, to make us live a year in which we are first in the men’s world ranking and first in the women’s European ranking. Our clubs performing at the highest level, with leading coaches and referees around the world,” he added.

In this sense, Garbajosa stressed that “the future is also coming.” “From today the next 100 years of our history begin. With the great championship for the under-19 girls, the silver medal in the women’s Eurobasket, the World Cup that is ahead, the men’s and women’s indoor categories, always leaving the name of Spanish basketball at the top”, he highlighted.
