At the Stade Omnisports in Limbé, Ibrahima Koné put Mali ahead with a 79th-minute penalty goal, while Musa Barrow equalized in the 90th minute for Gambia, also converting a penalty.

The Malian team seemed to have the victory assured when Ibrahima Koné converted the maximum penalty. But Gambia, led by the Belgian Tom Saintfiet, did not give up and found the reward when the Moroccan referee Samir Guezzaz awarded a penalty for a handball and Barrow, from Bologna, took advantage of it to seal the tie.
