FRANKFURT (GERMANY), 4 Apr. (dpa/EP) –
The German Football Federation (DFB) clarified on Monday that Freiburg must decide this if they want to appeal the result of their 4-1 Bundesliga loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday, in which the Bavarians played for a few seconds with 12 players.
A DFB spokesman clarified that appeals must not be submitted within 48 hours of the match, but within two full calendar days. This means that Freiburg has until midnight to submit its appeal in writing.
Bayern won 4-1 in Freiburg but played around 20 seconds with 12 players after winger Kingsley Coman failed to leave the pitch as planned in a double substitution in the 86th minute.
The confusion arose because, when announcing the change, Coman’s old number was shown instead of his current number 11. Bayern were leading 3-1 at the time.
Freiburg defender Nico Schlotterbeck told Sky TV that he informed the referee that Munich’s Niklas Süle had entered the field of play, but no one had come off the substitution. The DFB will not take any further action if Freiburg decides not to appeal.
