MADRID, 12 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, visited the players of the Spanish women’s Olympic rugby team, the Leonas7s, in Madrid on Wednesday, who will play the HSBC Spain Sevens, in Malaga on 21 to January 23, and in Seville, from 28 to 30.

Along with the Secretary of State for Sports were the Vice-rector for Culture, Sports and University Extension of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Isabel García Fernández, and the president of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER), Alfonso Feijoo.

José Manuel Franco’s visit took place in the North Zone Sports Complex of the Complutense University of Madrid, better known as Paraninfo, at the end of his last training session before traveling to Malaga.

These were received by Eli Martínez, the manager of the Leonas7s, as well as a former international player and currently also a director of the FER. Alfonso Feijoo encouraged and wished the Leonas7s luck, and thanked José Manuel Franco for the visit and the support of the Complutense University of Madrid.

For his part, the president of the CSD also conveyed all the support to the players of the Spanish Sevens team, whom he set as an example and encouraged to play and, “if it can be”, win in the important events that lie ahead in Malaga and Seville, and he told them that he will try to be in the Andalusian towns if his schedule allows it.

This is the first time that the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series have been held in Spain and the national team will compete in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Amaia Erbina, who acted as captain in the absence of Anne Fernández de Corres, thanked the president of the CSD and the vice-rector of the UCM for the visit, to whom she presented some T-shirts of the Leonas7s as a souvenir.
