Four million: the price of Liverpool's new jewel

Liverpool already know what they will have to pay for Harvey Elliott. The current footballer of Blackburn rovers, where he is on loan this season, has been a revelation in the English second division thanks to his four goals and eight assists with only 17 years. Finally, almost two years after their arrival at Liverpool, the 'reds' have known the decision of a court: 1.3 million fixed euros and half a million more when signing two professional contracts. In addition, there is a bonus depending on their matches in the first team, as well as a possible arrival to the English team, which would take the agreement up to 4.5 million of euros.

Why has it taken so long to decide its price? Liverpool signed Elliott when he was 16 years, in 2019, but could not agree on a compensation amount with the Fulham. This amount of Compensation is mandatory for all footballers under the age of 24 who leave the club when their contract ends. The amount of the transfer works as a recognition of the player's training, which in Elliott's case spent all his years as a quarry in the London team. In the first moment, Liverpool only offered 800,000 Euros for Elliott, an amount that they did not accept and that took the case to court. What's more, Fulham keeps 20% of a future sale.

Harvey Elliott is a young talent who has not stopped breaking records. At Fulham debuted at the age of 15 in a cup match and a little later he became the Youngest footballer to play a Premier League match (16 years 30 days), just weeks before signing for Liverpool, which convinced him of a better future. With the 'reds' he was a regular at the subsidiary last season, although he was present in many calls and played two league games, three in the FA Cup and another three in the Carabao Cup. When he returns next June he will be part of the first squad by Jürgen Klopp.

It is not the first time that Liverpool have to go to court to decide the price of a transfer. The most recent case is that of Danny Ings: the English forward arrived from Burnley at the end of his contract and the court decided that the price would be almost 7 million euros, the highest amount ever paid in this way. Another example is that of Ethan Ampadu and Chelsea, for whom the 'blues' paid almost a million euros to Exeter.
