Florentino, Raúl and Marcelo pay tribute to Gento: “A total madridista”

The avalanche of reactions and shows of affection and mourning for the death of Francisco Gento is being incessant. The white club is throwing itself into the farewell of the madridista legend, honorary president, and Florentino Pérez, Marcelo and Raúl have had words of remembrance for the Galerna del Cantábrico.

The white president sent an institutional message hours after learning of Gento’s death. “Today is a day of great sadness not only for Real Madrid but for world football”, declared the leader. “Gento is one of our great myths and we will all remember him as one of the best players in our history”, continued Florentino, who highlighted the historical importance of the figure of Gento.

Raúl González, Castilla coach and one of the spiritual heirs in Gento’s madridista imaginary, also lamented the death of the former player, to whom he was united by a relationship of admiration and affection. “It is a sad day. A pure, total Madridista is leaving, a legend. A footballer and an exceptional person who is loved by all the people. He was very close and affectionate and was one of the greatest”, praised Raúl, who wanted to share the shared moments.

“We shared good times, I remember their anecdotes, how they experienced football, the trips… Each moment was unique. He has been very fond of me and I have loved him too. He was possibly the best Spanish player in history. Unique and unrepeatable”, pointed out the coach of the subsidiary.

Marcelo, the first captain of Real Madrid, also lamented the loss of the honorary president. “It’s a complicated day, we found out when we arrived in Valdebebas. His story and images will always be with us. I will remember him with great joy, he made us laugh a lot and he is a legend”, said the Brazilian, who on Sunday equaled Gento as the player with the most titles in Madrid’s history.
