Flamengo is looking for another Pablo Marí in Tenerife

In the summer of 2019, Flamengo went after Pablo Marí, who at the time was playing for Deportivo de la Coruña, on loan from Manchester City. The Spanish defender did not manage to ascend to the First Division with the sports team and he packed his bags for Brazil for, in addition to leaving around 2M euros in the coffers of the group Citizen, be proclaimed champion of the Copa Libertadores. The first Spaniard to do so. The signing formula was so positive for Flamengo, since, in addition to the performance offered by the player -he played a total of 30 games-, Arsenal paid 6M euros for his transfer, which the rubo-black team would be studying the possibility of repeating it. This time, with a player from CD Tenerife.

From Brazil they report that Flamengo would have been interested in José León, a 27-year-old defender of the Tenerife team. And it is that the Brazilian team intends to hire at least three players during the month of February. That is why, according to this information “Marcos Braz, vice president of football, and Bruno Spindel, executive director of the portfolio, are in Europe” in order to negotiate with several clubs on the continent. The leaders, who are currently in England to finalize the final purchase of Andreas Pereira from Manchester United, will soon travel to other European countries “to intensify negotiations with other objectives.” At Flamengo they have as a priority the hiring of “two defenders, a midfielder and a forward”.

Although José León is one of the priorities of the red-black board, his incorporation will not be easy. They affirm from Brazil that the initial perception of Flamengo is that the economic claims of CD Tenerife are high. Nevertheless, the Brazilian team “is still studying the investment” and “the intention of the leaders is to strengthen contacts in a strategy similar to the one that brought Pablo Marí to Flamengo in 2019”. José León, who arrived in Tenerife this summer from Alcorcón, has played 19 LaLiga SmartBank games so far this season, 18 of them as a starter. The central defender of the Tenerife team, who came from the Real Madrid youth academy, has extensive experience in the Second Division after passing through Rayo Vallecano, Fuenlabrada, Alcorcón and, now, Tenerife.
