Flamenco singer Diego El Cigala, tried for crimes of abuse and harassment of his ex-wife

The flamenco singer Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar, Diego el Cigala, will be tried on November 7 for crimes of abuse and harassment against his ex-wife. The trial will take place in the Criminal Court of Jerez de la Frontera, in Cádiz, according to judicial sources. This hearing has been set after a postponement. We remember that the flamenco artist was arrested in a hotel in Madrid in June 2021 (photo above), after his partner reported him to a police station in the aforementioned town in Cádiz.

In July 2023, the Jerez Court of Violence against Women requested that Diego el Cigala be tried for the aforementioned crimes of continued degrading treatment of his ex-wife, who expressed the physical and psychological damage to which she was subjected.

“He grabbed me by the neck and said ‘whore'”

On one occasion, she revealed on the show Caso Abierto: “I accused him of a possible infidelity and he responded by beating me up.” She also confessed very harsh details such as: “He grabbed me by the neck and said ‘bitch, I shit on your dead, I’ll kill you.”

After his arrest, he was released and his first words about women “who always want money” led him to apologize in X for speaking in a “totally wrong” way after seeing himself “unfairly denounced” and in a state of “maximum sadness and frustration.” The artist wrote: “I was not referring to all the women in the world, but to just one, specifically the one with whom I have a financial disagreement.” “I am not perfect and I may have made mistakes in my life (…) but God is witness that I have always acted with my heart and in good faith.”
