Fernando Santos: “Nobody wants anybody in the League of Nations”

The selector of Portugal, Fernando Santos, said today that it is not worth advancing favorites for the League of Nations because the teams are “at the top of the cream of Europe” and until it is played many things can change.

“Nobody wants anybody in the League of Nations. We are at the top of the cream of Europe. There are teams that stayed in the next group because they went down, but normally they would be here. It is not worth anticipating favorites, “he told Channel 11 Portuguese after the draw.

Portugal stayed in group A2, with the national teams of Spain, Switzerland and the Czech Republic as rivals.

“Until then many things are going to change. It is a consistent group, very consistent (…) They are teams of great quality and Portugal has to be prepared,” he said.

Santos stressed that Portugal and Spain have “very strong” league players and that the games will take place in June and September, difficult moments.

“It’s always a difficult time. Several of our players came to the last European Championship far from desirable. Currently the players are in tremendous wear. In September it is the opposite. It depends a lot on the moment of form of each of the players. That’s going to count, “he explained.
