Fernando Alonso: “There were many laps, something necessary, there is no better training”

MADRID, 24 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) explained as “necessary” his marathon laps this Friday on the second day of official tests in Bahrain, with a new car and an important “training” ahead of the World Cup premiere.

“It was good today, a lot of laps, which is necessary for the new car, also for me after a long winter. I did just one day in Jerez with the old car and today was really the first day with a lot of laps. I learn a lot of things and I felt very good. Very happy”, he pointed out in statements to his team.

The double world champion signed the two sessions of the day in an Aston Martin that finished third of the day. The Asturian confessed that the work with the car is endless, but the World Cup starts next week in the same setting as Sakhir.

“We feel obviously not quite ready, because we would love to have 10 or 20 days of testing, there is no limit to the things you can do with the car. It’s the same for everyone, it’s going to be very exciting for me to start with Aston Martin, I’m very proud of this team,” he said.

After 130 laps, Alonso explained that he felt comfortable and fitter. “You feel good. I have been training for a long time during the winter and now you jump in the car, there are muscles that you still have to adapt, but there is no better training than driving. Now I feel more fit and ready for the race, “he said , before finishing the test on Saturday with the afternoon session.
