Felipe VI receives Zelensky in Barajas: the president of Ukraine eats with the Kings at the Royal Palace

The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, has landed in Madrid. Felipe VI received him at the foot of the runway at the Adolfo Suárez-Barajas airport, as reported by the Royal Family. The meeting, which took place this Monday morning, May 27, was recorded by TVE cameras.

The King and the Ukrainian leader greeted each other and listened to each other’s national anthems. Zelensky has arrived with his military image, cargo pants, boots and a khaki green t-shirt, the one we have seen since the invasion of Russia in February 2022.

Zelensky’s intense agenda in Spain includes a meeting with the King, another with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and with the Presidents of the Congress and the Senate, Francina Armengol and Pedro Rollán, respectively. This visit arrived today after the one on May 17 was postponed due to the intensification of the Russian offensive on the city of Kharkov.

At 12:00 p.m., the Ukrainian president will go to the Moncloa Palace, where Sánchez will receive you. After the meeting, both leaders will appear at a press conference before the media, according to the Government’s agenda.

It is anticipated that Sánchez and Zelensky sign a security agreement that the two governments have negotiated bilaterally and that is in line with those signed by the G7 countries and other Europeans. The objective of this agreement is that Ukraine can have predictability in terms of the security assistance it will receive over a certain period of time.

Starting at 2:45 p.m., the Kings will offer a lunch in honor of the Ukrainian president. The King will speak a few words during the meeting, according to the agenda of the Royal House.
