Felipe and Letizia’s busy work week

Travel week for the kings of Spain. Casa Real has shared the agenda of the monarchs for the next few days and both Felipe as Joy They will face different events but separately, since the monarch will travel to the Canary Islands while the consort will do so to Cantabria, specifically to Castro Urdialeswhere she will preside over the opening of the 2024/2015 Vocational Training course at the IES Doctor José Zapatero Domínguez on Wednesday. A new event in the framework of education after seeing her inaugurate the school year for the youngest children in Guadalajara, where she was welcomed to the tune of ‘Asturias, patria querida’.

The following day, on Thursday, Queen Letizia will attend the Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum to attend the 2024 Retina Eco Awards ceremony, which recognise the best projects of 2023 in terms of sustainability and climate change using technology and which this year will be awarded to Cimico, Mapfre, Nortegas, ABB and Sepiia, among others.

The monarch, for his part, will begin on Monday at the Royal Palace in Madrid, where he will receive the Credentials of the new ambassadors of Egypt, Qatar, Australia, Paraguay, Peru and Palestine. On Wednesday we will see him at Zarzuela with Salvador Illa, the new president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, whom he will receive after his appointment to discuss the future of the region.

On Thursday, Don Felipe will travel to Tenerifewhere he will receive the Gold Medal of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which was awarded to him unanimously on June 20 and which aims to reaffirm the permanent commitment that links the Crown and the Canary Islands: “Granting this honorary consideration to the Head of State is an act of justice, since His Majesty has fulfilled, fulfills and will fulfill an outstanding service to the Autonomous Community, with which he maintains a special link,” said the president of the Chamber, Astrid Pérez. After the ceremony, the king will go to the Ritz-Carlton Abama Hotel to inaugurate the II Meeting of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Ibero-American and Portuguese-Speaking Countries with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. In the afternoon, the monarch will travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the occasion of the Cotec Europa Meeting and will visit the historic center of Las Palmas in the company of the Presidents of the Portuguese Republic and the Italian Republic.

Friday will also be a day full of activities, as he will hold, together with the presidents of the Portuguese Republic and the Italian Republic, a meeting with schoolchildren at the Elder Museum of Science and Technology. In the evening, Don Felipe will chair the Cotec Europa 2024 Meeting at the Pérez Galdós Theatre, where they will discuss technological sovereignty.

Next week also has an important addition to the agenda: Queen Sofia. The Emeritus ends her vacation and resumes her duties in Portugal, where she will preside over the official event celebrating World Alzheimer’s Day within the framework of the International Congress on Neurodegenerative Diseases. Queen Sofia will attend the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown on September 20 and 21, attended by world-renowned researchers. This prestigious event, organized jointly by the Queen Sofia Foundation, CIEN and the Champalimaud Foundation, will offer a unique platform to share the latest advances in the research and treatment of these diseases.
