Felipe and Letizia celebrate their wedding anniversary with a getaway to Asturias: all the details

Their Majesties the Kings of Spain celebrate 20 years of marriage this Wednesday and their official agenda was cleared so they could celebrate such a beautiful date. They have done it in Madrid and in the strictest privacy. This weekend, however, they will be able to do it in a very special land for both of them: Asturias. Their institutional obligations will take them to Oviedo on Saturday the 25th to preside over the Central Act of Armed Forces Day 2024, but they will surely take advantage of their stay to enjoy a few hours just for two.

And Saturday’s is not the only official event in northern lands for the kings. One day before, Friday, Felipe VI will be in Gijón to give an aeronaval review and witness a dynamic demonstration on the San Lorenzo beach. She is not invited to the event Mrs. Letizia But her agenda is clear of obligations, so it would not be strange for her to travel with her husband privately to take advantage of the getaway.

Asturias is a special place for both of them because it is the paternal land of Doña Letizia and for having provided his first royal title to Don Felipe, who defended the Principality from a very early age. Now her daughter, Doña Leonor, does it. Grandma Menchu’s house, in Sardeu, was also a witness to the first dates between Felipe and Letizia, when their courtship was beginning to flourish and was a secret from the rest of the world. Once married, they visited her on several occasions before the cameras, enjoying the humility and rural Asturian atmosphere. The presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo is mandatory, as is the visit that everyone makes together a day later to enjoy and get to know the Exemplary Town of the year, where they receive a true bath of masses and affection.
