Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, former world number one, will donate half a million dollars to contribute to the schooling of children in Ukraine, country invaded by Russia. The player will channel his help through the NGO War Child Holland, which provides assistance in Romania, Moldova and other countries refugee children leaving Ukraine.
“My family and I are horrified after seeing the images from Ukraine and we are heartbroken to think of all the innocent people who have been terribly affected. We are for peace,” Federer said in a statement.
“We will provide help to children in Ukraine who need care. About six million of them are currently out of school. We know that this is an essential moment to facilitate your access to education and we would like to help them overcome this extremely traumatic experience”, added the player, winner of twenty Grand Slam tournaments and considered one of the best in history.
“Through the Roger Federer Foundation We will support War Children Holland with a donation of $500,000 to create access to continuous schooling for Ukrainian children,” said the Swiss.
