Despite the fact that he still has one contract season until he was a pilot of Ferrari, Carlos Sainz wanted to write a letter of thanks and farewell to the “family of McLaren“who has accompanied him in recent months, especially his partner Lando Norris, with whom he has formed a fantastic couple both on and off the track.

“Dear McLaren family, it's hard for me to say goodbye on a blank sheet, but I'm going to try. Everyone knows the great history of this team, that's nothing new. Still, it wasn't until I saw all the cars of my dolos lined up at the MTC when I really understood the meaning of being a McLaren driver.

The responsibility and pride they invaded me immediately. We had a great challenge ahead and we had no time to lose. From the first moment I moved to Great Britain, every person in this huge family made me feel at home. Some of you even helped me find my apartment and make the move, showing at that time a great team spirit. Everyone in the factory was in the same boat.

Despite the bad start of season in 2019I always felt the support and trust of everyone, and I knew it was a matter of time before I started to score points. Last season it ended up being my best year in Formula 1 and a great step forward for the team. Finishing fourth in the Constructors 'World Championship and sixth in the Drivers' World Championship was a great achievement. And the Brazilian podium was perfect.

I have always felt the passion and support of the McLaren fans, who have supported me in every country we have visited. You are amazing. I am sure we will enjoy what remains of this 'Smooth operation'.

I couldn't be more grateful to every single person in the McLaren family and I hope to fight you guys on the road next year. It is an honor to be part of your history and all I can say is thank you.

Oh and Landau. It has been a pleasure to share equipment with you, my teleeco. Let's get this over with.

Although this terrible pandemic has paused all of our good times, 2020 is not over and We will be back very soon to give our best. There will be time for farewells at the end of the year, but until then, head down and work. Thank you”.
