The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix until 2026 after the agreement reached between the organization of the championship and the Catalan authorities, which had approved the negotiation that has come to fruition.
“Formula 1 is pleased to announce that we have renewed our contract with the Circuit de BarcelonaCatalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix until 2026,” the Formula 1 organization said in a statement.
In addition, they thank the promoter and the Catalan authorities, as well as the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, for their “commitment and support” and assure that they hope to “continue building the relationship” in the years to come.
As part of the new agreement, improvements to the track and facilities will be made before the next race, scheduled for May 22, 2022, including updates and improvements towards the circuit’s ambitious sustainability plans.
The president and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, said he was “delighted” with this agreement. “We are delighted to announce this agreement with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. I want to thank the authorities for their enthusiasm and commitment to maintaining Formula 1 in Barcelona. We will continue to closely watch national heroes such as Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz,” he added.
