Even though Colby Covington lost the UFC 296 title, Chael Sonnen doesn’t think he will ever fight again.
Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) lost the main event at T-Mobile Arena last Saturday to welterweight king Leon Edwards (22-3 MMA, 14-2 UFC). It was his third chance to win the undisputed title, but he failed.
Jon Anik, who calls the fights for the UFC, said that Covington should fight Shavkat Rakhmonov next.
At the news conference after the fight, Covington denied this. Sonnen doesn’t see Covington moving up, and he wonders if the boxer will ever fight again.
Sunny said on the UFC 296 post-fight show, “I’m just not sure Dana may even make the suggestion to Colby.” To climb that mountain so many times. Colby’s work history is a puzzle.
He fought for the world title three times, was an interim champion, and never lost. One day, he woke up and realized he wasn’t the interim winner anymore. He fought the current “BMF” winner and beat him, but he never became “BMF” champion.
I think there’s a real sense of anger. He might want to start over, but I’m not sure. That is the harsh truth. There is a chance that Colby Covington will show up again.
In the main event of UFC 296 last Saturday at T-Mobile Arena, Edwards (22-3 MMA, 14-2 UFC) kept his title by beating Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) in a lackluster but effective effort.
Rogan thought it was a mistake for Edwards to start fighting with Covington near the end of the fight. After all the wrestling, Edwards won the fight by lying on his back.
Rogan, who called UFC 296 from the cage, said after the fight, “What was interesting was the fact he made options tonight that weren’t the best choices in terms of winning the fight but merely to prove a point.”
“For example, he chose to wrestle Colby when he didn’t have to and when he might have defended himself and gotten back on his feet.”
I believe that would have been a better way for him to win, as he would have been able to truly control the fight.
But Edwards said he really wanted to show that he could beat Covington. While he was able to do it twice, it was when he let Covington launch his biggest attack that all three judges scored Round 5 against him.
Rogan said, “He ended up on the bottom of the fight and was hit by Colby, which didn’t have to happen.” I really like your idea of Rakhmonov.
“That’s not how you should watch Leon Edwards fight. You don’t want to see him make decisions based on his ego when he doesn’t have to, especially since he looks so good when he stands up.
The fact that Kakhramonov has won both XMMA or Karate Combat easily makes him think that the UFC is once again interested in him. This is especially true since he has grown up outside of fighting.
Kakhramonov told MMA Junkie after his win at Karate Combat 43 on Friday, “I just felt like that I had to grow in a little bit, grow up more mature, and generally choose better people around me.” “That was the point.
Better people should have told me what was wrong and what was right. I’m with the right people right now. We’ll do incredible things in 2024 because we’re all in this together.
Kakhramonov says that the changes he’s made inside the cage reflect the changes he’s made in his daily life. He never changes his mind about being considered among the best bantam boxers in the world.
To get more attention, Kakhramonov has decided to make it a goal to keep his fights going, even if it means taking a slightly riskier approach.
He said, “I’m going to have simply knock people out.” “Everything else is fine. I’m going have to sit them down and beat them up. When we fight, I know I can beat anyone at wrestling.
It seems like, “Why pick 50/50 when I might drown you?” I picked that road just to win because I know I can do it. I’ll have to kill people though.”
It’s been hard for Kakhramonov, 28, to find fights in his home area since his success in the UFC. He got a new job so he could pay the bills, but he says he’s always in the gym, even though no one wants to fight him.
He said, “I don’t know what’s wrong about the fighters these days.” “No one wants to fight.” I want to fight all the time.
We try to fight all the time, but no one wants to fight. They are scared. You know, I get it. In the UFC, I faced some tough guys. They didn’t look like anything to me.
He thought Karate Combat Up and Down’s event at the World Market Center on Friday was great.
She knocked out Gabriel Stankunas in the third round with a technical knockout, and then he made a strong speech on the mic.
Kakhramonov says the UFC is still what he wants to be, even though he might keep doing one-off shows like Karate Combat and XMMA. I also wouldn’t fight you.
He said, “At the end of the day, I’m an MMA fighter.” “I enjoy fighting. I’m always ready for a fight. I really like mixed martial arts (MMA).
I would be lying if I truly said, “No, I don’t want to go back to the UFC.” It would be an honor to have a spot back there.”
