This Friday, October 29, will be remembered as the day on which the statue dedicated by the fans of the Atlético de Madrid to his legend, Luis Aragones. More than two years ago, the Athletic Front had an initiative to pay tribute to the Sage of Hortaleza and the swollen mattress responded. Thousands of people contributed money to make it a reality. The work was commissioned to the sculptor Alicia Huertas, that for more than a year has been shaping the figure of Luis, along with his family.

Atlético organized an emotional event with representation from all sectors of the club. Luis’s family was supported by the president of the entity, Enrique Cerezo, by Simeone and Boil as representatives of the first team and by former players such as Fernando Torres, Ufarte, Adelardo, Pereira, Gárate, Villa, Gabi, Ruiz, Marcelino or its inseparable Jesus Paredes.
“It is a pride, for my father, and as athletic. Thanks to the fans,” said Luis Aragonés Jr. in the emotional act that took place before the work was uncovered, and in which Alicia Huertas, Ufarte, and Fernando Torres, who recalled the figure of Luis, who was always special to him. “He is the greatest legend this club has ever had, without a doubt,” said El Niño.

And the great moment has arrived. The sculptor was in charge of removing the canvas to make way for the applause. The figure of Luis player, in bronze, with a characteristic gesture, which already appears on the west side of the Metropolitan, on its main façade, next to the Paseo de las Leyendas. Swork on a base taken from the concrete of his Vicente Calderón, in which you can read “Luis Aragonés, eternal legend. A tribute from the Atlético de Madrid fans”, there will remain forever a tribute of the fans for his legend.
