Espanyol blunders against Barbastro; Las Palmas, Valladolid and Celta do go to the round of 32

Elche beat Yeclano by the minimum and Granada eliminated Zaragoza on penalties in La Romareda

MADRID, 4 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UD Barbastro, of the fourth national category, surprised this Tuesday by winning (2-0) and eliminating RCD Espanyol, a First Division team, in the thirty-second final of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, while UD Las Palmas, the Real Valladolid and RC Celta de Vigo have advanced to the round after beating CE Europa (1-2), Real Ávila (2-4) and Salamanca CF respectively. UDS (by 0-7).

At the Barbastro Municipal Sports Field (Huesca), the local team laid the first stone of their victory by holding 0-0 at halftime, with their goalkeeper Arnau Fàbrega standing out more and more. And shortly after the second half began, Andrés Barrera caused a penalty from Álvaro Tejero; Barrera himself scored it with a strong shot down the center.

The ‘perico’ coach, Manolo González, turned to regular footballers in his starting lineup, such as Pere Milla, Irvin Cardona and Alex Král, but Espanyol found themselves again and again with an immense Arnau Fàbrega, who also benefited from the lack of firepower in the rival team.

In the 81st minute, Barrera rounded off his great performance with a powerful left footed shot from outside the area that beat the visiting goalkeeper low. This small miracle placed Barbastro in the round of 32 along with other LaLiga EA Sports clubs, although Valladolid suffered to overcome their match at the Adolfo Suárez Stadium in Ávila in extra time.

With Álvaro Rubio as interim coach, after the dismissal of the Uruguayan Paulo Pezzolano, the Pucelano team took the lead after a quarter of an hour with a goal from Juanmi Latasa and was then overcome by a double from Adri Carrión (49′ and 54′). Marcos André equalized and forced extra time where he and Kike Pérez sealed the victory for the Blanquivioletas.

The other extra time of the night was in La Romareda, although it was not enough to decide the winner after the 2-2 draw in regulation time between Real Zaragoza and Granada CF continued. Thus, the Nasrid team finally smiled on the penalty shootout, winning it 4-5 due to Aitor Mañas’ error in the sixth round of the local team’s shot.

Furthermore, Celta de Vigo had no mercy for Salamanca and scored through up to six different players, as only the young youth squad Fer López repeated for 0-6 and 0-7 in the final stretch. Las Palmas had more work to get out of their match at the Nou Sardenya, where the two ‘pio-pio’ goals were signed by Oliver McBurnie.
