España Activa proposes five measures to fight obesity from institutions

Spain is at the head of Europe in overweight with rates above 60 percent

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The España Activa Foundation has proposed five measures to fight obesity from institutions, after it was made public that Spain is at the head of Europe in overweight, with rates above 60 percent, according to the European Regional Report on Obesity 2022 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

These figures are especially worrying among the younger population.

Given this scenario, on the occasion of World Obesity Day, the Fundación España Activa has reiterated the need to promote healthy lifestyles in society.

“Obesity has become a public health problem and solving it is in everyone’s hands. Promoting active lifestyles and fighting a sedentary lifestyle is our objective as an entity, but we also feel responsible for continuing to claim the need for these measures are a priority for the institutions”, stressed the president of España Activa, Jaime Lissavetzky.

Thus, from the Fundación España Activa they underline the need to face this problem with measures such as promoting healthy lifestyle habits in schools so that the little ones become aware of the problem from an early age, and encouraging the practice of physical activity and sport with campaigns of sensitization and awareness.

Raising awareness about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, promoting active leisure in the face of the emergence of new technologies and prescribing physical exercise from health institutions are the other measures that should be promoted, according to the body chaired by Lissavetzky.
