Emma García asks for “patience” with Telecinco’s audience crisis: “The road is hard”

Emma Garcia She has been with Telecinco for 20 years and has lived through all the stages that the channel has gone through. We must not forget that she arrived in 2002 to liven up the afternoons with By your side. And he did. Therefore, he knows what it is to enjoy good audiences, average ones and bad ones. That is why asks for “patience” to face the difficult situation that a channel that is struggling to re-emerge is facing“The road is hard and we have all been through it,” he explains. Informalia In this interview, the presenter from San Sebastian recalls that the battle in the afternoons – Ana Rosa and Sonsoles – “has been balanced” and she hopes that Jorge Javier’s programme “will gradually pick up”.

Garcia says she is “comfortable” in Fiestaproduced by Unicorn, but does not rule out other projects on Telecinco. “I want to do many things, I’m open”she says. “My daughter is going away to study this year, so I might ask them for something more,” jokes the communicator, who will be in charge of the weekend programme this Saturday and Sunday after her summer holidays. For the start of the new year, Emma announces content that, she assures, will be talked about. “One of the collaborators brings news about the royal family, an investigation that will have an impact and will have great relevance here and abroad.”

How do you face this season?

With a feeling of excitement and desire. And with eyes wide open, because the competition is still strong, each channel is making its bet, but that makes us stronger. So with strength, serenity and respect for what we have before us.

Is there still room for change and improvement in the program?

There is always room for improvement. We left in June with the work done, with a new set and collaborators. This season, in addition, we are going to have a section of Big Brother.

Ana Rosa and Sonsoles; Motos, Latre and Broncano… Do you have the feeling that this season has started more intense and competitive than ever?

I get that feeling every time the school year starts. It’s a time of new releases and trying out new things and all the networks get their act together. But in this case it’s true that the race is very competitive in all the time slots, but I like that, whether it’s closer to home or not. It also happens to us on the weekends, because when you least expect it, they throw something at you.

You presented A tu lado, Mujeres y hombres… Do you miss doing other things on the channel or being placed in another time slot?

I want to do many things, I’m open, but I’m already ten hours on the Telecinco schedule. If a project comes up that the network sees for me, of course, but we’ll see how we can combine it. The other day I told one of my bosses that my daughter is going away to study this year, so I might ask them for something else (laughs). But in Fiesta I am very comfortable because it is a magazine that has all genres.

After 20 years at Mediaset, you have experienced the good and bad times of the network. What is your analysis of the current situation at Telecinco?

You have to be patient. It is a period of change and the public needs time. It is not done in one week, two weeks and sometimes not even in one season. You have to go little by little, as is being done in the afternoons, where the balance is being balanced. The change that is taking place is very positive but patience is needed. The road is hard and we have all been through it. When I arrived at Telecinco, they had tried to change the afternoons many times and there was no way. And, suddenly, you find the key, with the right person and the right programme. You have to have work, trust and unity. When things are going well, it is very easy to come out smiling. But you also have to be there when things are not going well, you have to get up and carry on.

‘A tu lado’ started out as a talk show, like ‘El diario de Jorge’. In the case of Vázquez’s programme, which is not having a good audience, do you think it can improve?

I think the program is phenomenal, Jorge does it very well and the production company [Booomerang] knows very well what they are doing, the testimonies. Summer is not the same as the season, they did well to test it during the holidays. It is a program that is well done and will gradually get back on its feet.

‘Fiesta’ has dispensed with some collaborators/characters [como Ana María Aldón] and you have opted for others who are only journalists or commentators. Why?

It’s true that there were changes in collaborators, but I hope to remix them all, because we have many sections. They all contribute a lot.

This time, ‘Fiesta’ doesn’t have any members of the Campos family collaborating. Considering that they are a content generator, would you like to sign any of them?

All three together, which I already had in Long live lifeI would love to, but it’s difficult on weekends. I hope Alejandra comes, because I haven’t seen her since she got pregnant.

Was she a good collaborator?

She is much better now than before. When she started with me she had just arrived and she wanted to improve and asked a lot of questions to learn. But I was very comfortable with her, although it was difficult for her on the weekend, because it was the weekend, especially when you have a boyfriend.

Who is your favorite Campos collaborator?

As a collaborator, Carmen Borrego, because she has less of a filter. She has a great sense of humor and I laughed a lot with her. Terelu has more of a filter and more experience. And Alejandra is improving a lot.
