Real Madrid has called this Friday, April 2, elections for the Presidency and the members of the Board of Directors who will govern the club for the next four years. The call for the Electoral Board of the club occurs after the request made by the president, Florentino Pérez, once the Board of Directors had been heard at its meeting on Thursday, April 1.
Requirements to be president of Real Madrid: what is needed to be a candidate
The requirements to be president or member of the Board of Directors of Real Madrid are the following:
• Be Spanish, adult and with full capacity to act.
• Be up to date with social duties (payment of fees).
• Not be subject to a sanction of disqualification from holding management positions.
• Not hold managerial positions in other football clubs, nor be active as a player, referee, coach or technician of the same at the time of the proclamation as a candidate.
• Have 20 years of seniority as a club member to be a candidate for president; 15 years in the case of presenting himself as vice president; and 10 years for the other members of the candidacy.
• Submit a Bank guarantee.
Candidates for the Real Madrid elections must be made up of a minimum of 10 members, including the candidate for president, and a maximum of 20.
Guarantees for the Real Madrid elections
Candidates for the presidency and members of the Real Madrid Board of Directors must present a bank pre-guarantee that guarantees equivalent to 15% of the club's general expenses budget. With the budget for the 2020-2021 season as a reference, that pre-endorsement for these elections must be 92.82 million euros.
The document containing said pre-guarantee must state that it will automatically become the final guarantee if the candidacy is the winner and once the president takes office. The endorsement must be backed by the personal assets of the members of the candidacy.
What documentation is needed to submit an application
• Present the list of the members that compose it and their personal data.
• Be signed by each and every one of the members that make up the candidacy, with a notarized signature, and will include the formal acceptance of the candidates of their inclusion in the candidacy.
• Accompany a electoral program.
• Appoint a official representative of the candidacy, in charge of relations with the Electoral Board, and indicating their contact information for communications.

Presentation of candidatures
Once the elections are called, from Saturday, April 3, those interested can present their candidacies at the club's offices from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The last day to present candidatures will be Monday, April 12, with uninterrupted hours from 10:00 to 24:00.
Electoral census
From the same day the elections are called, and until 7:00 p.m. on April 6, members can consult the electoral roll and submit claims to it in person at the club's offices or through the members' area of the website . All members of legal age who have been members for at least one year have the right to vote..
Proclamation of candidacies
When a candidacy is presented, the Electoral Board, after checking that it meets the requirements, must proclaim it as valid the following day.
Voting date
If there is more than one application, the day following the proclamation of the last of the validated candidacies, the Electoral Board must set the date of the vote, which must be held within the following fifteen days. This means that the last day that voting can take place is Thursday, April 29.
Absentee ballot
The deadline to request the vote by mail, which must be carried out before a notary (the club will reimburse the members for the cost of the notarial procedure), will extend until the Wednesday prior to the date set for voting.
Proclamation of the new President and Board of Directors if there is only one candidacy
If only one candidacy is presented, between April 13 and 15 the Electoral Board will proclaim its members as new members of the Board of Directors.
