El Pizjuán, Sardinero and Las Gaunas, alternatives to San Mamés due to the coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic has drawn a different scenario in all areas of life. Protocols, distances, hygiene, social behavior … Sport is one more affected. And football in particular, which is taking its competitions forward in the highest categories.

Athletic has presented to LaLiga the stadiums of El Sardinero, (Racing), Sánchez-Pizjuán (Sevilla) and Las Gaunas (CD Logroñés) as alternatives for their home matches if the situation generated by Covid 19 prevents them from using San Mamés. In addition, it has reached a reciprocity agreement with the Seville team, which would have the rojiblanco field at its disposal as host if it cannot use its field due to the pandemic.

The clubs have had to propose alternatives in case they could not play in their own fiefdoms due to the serious situation that the coronavirus may entail. That field B, to call it somehow, has to be outside the autonomous community itself and, in addition, be the headquarters of a First or Second club.

The competition rules establish that “when due to circumstances derived from the pandemic a club is unable to play its matches in its stadium, either due to the impossibility of accessing the territory where the match was to be played or due to the impossibility of using the previously defined facility, it must use, prior authorization from the LNFP and the RFEF, another stadium that is approved at the beginning of the season for the dispute of First or Second Division matches ”.

Between Athletic and Seville there is a good relationship. Proof of this is the double friendly they will play tomorrow afternoon at the Pinatar Arena, in Murcia.
