The Egyptian Football Federation announced on Thursday the dismissal of Ehab Galal as national coach just two months after having appointed him to the post, after only three games played, in which he won one win and two losses, one particularly painful against Ethiopia.
“With all due respect and appreciation to Ehab Galal, circumstances can be difficult, so we have decided to thank him and wish him success. Sometimes football is unfair,” said the member of the Federation’s board of directors. Hazem Emam at a press conference in Cairo.
To replace him “we will hire a foreign coach and we already have many resumes, since the name of Egypt is very big and there are many coaches who contacted us to train the team,” added the manager.
He replaced Carlos Queiroz
Galala 54-year-old former defender, was appointed as head of the ‘pharaohs’ on April 12 to replace Carlos Queirozwho terminated his contract with the Egyptian Federation by mutual agreement after eight months in the position in which he failed to qualify for the national team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
He started his journey with Egypt with a victory ‘in extremis’ against Guinea in the qualifying phase for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, 1-0 and with the goal in 87′, but his future as coach was marked by losing the following game 2-0 against Ethiopiawhich is ranked 140th in the FIFA ranking.
His last game with the ‘pharaohs’ was a friendly against South Korea last Tuesday in which they fell 4-1.
Second fastest dismissal
His dismissal was the second fastest in the history of the Egyptian team after that of Anwar Salama in 1999 after only 15 days on the job.
Galal Since the beginning of his coaching career, in 2007, he had coached 11 teams, all of them Egyptian with the exception of Al Ahli Libyan, and his greatest achievement had been qualifying the Makkasa de Fayum for the African Champions League in 2018 after finishing second.
