MADRID, 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
World Athletics, the International Athletics Federation, announced on Tuesday its five finalists for the best male athlete of the season, with the names of the Swedish Armand Duplantis, the Norwegian Jakob Ingebritsen or the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge as great favorites.
Duplantis has been one of the great protagonists of the year after breaking the pole vault world record on several occasions, setting it at 6.21 meters outdoors and 6.20 meters indoors.
For his part, Jakob Ingebritsen was proclaimed world and European champion in the open air of the 5,000 m outdoors and also won world indoor and European gold in the 1,500, and World Cup silver in the 1,500. Eliud Kipchoge lowered the marathon world record a few weeks ago in Berlin to 2:01.09.
The other candidates are the Moroccan long-distance runner Soufiane El Bakkali, world champion in the 3,000 obstacles and unbeaten in 2022, and the American sprinter Noah Lyles, world champion in the 200 meters with a mark of 19.31, the third best in history.
The voting process to choose the winner, which will be announced at the beginning of December, will be divided between the World Council and the World Family, who will cast their votes by email and count respectively 50 and 25 percent, while fans can do so online through World Athletics’ social media platforms, counting the remaining 25 percent.
