LONDON, 18 Jul. (PA Media/dpa/EP) –
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has been fined $8,000, just over 7,000 euros, after hitting his racket against a net post during Sunday’s men’s singles final at Wimbledon against Spanish Carlos Alcaraz.
The winner of 23 ‘Grand Slams’ paid for his frustration with his racket after receiving a ‘passing shot’ from Murcia that cost him a service break that was key to the fate of the fifth and decisive fifth set.
The seven-time champion of the London ‘big’ immediately received a ‘warning’ from the referee, Fergus Murphy, and this Monday the All England Lawn Tennis Club confirmed this economic sanction for “racket abuse”.
