Goodbye to the holidays. Goodbye to Palma and Malaga. There are hours left until Leonor, the eldest daughter of Felipe VI and Letizia, enters the Naval School of Marín, in Pontevedra. It is her second destination after Zaragoza. There she will continue her military training until she becomes head of the Armed Forces. It will be this Thursday 29th in the morning. The appointment is not listed in the Royal House’s diary. She will presumably enter alone, although some media outlets suggest that her mother could travel with her to give her that big hug in front of the Puerta de Carlos I, the emblematic entrance to the school.
As we said, the Princess of Asturias, Ensign Borbón, will cross the entrance gate of the Naval School that displays the motto “Honour, courage, discipline, loyalty”. She will do so as a First Midshipman, as published in the BOE in Royal Decree 737/2024 of July 23. She will join the third-year promotion, number 427. When she completes the course, which includes training on the Training Ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, she will receive the appointment of Second Midshipman. She will embark on the ship in January. In his welcome letter to the students, the commander-director of the school, Pedro Cardona, mentioned: “Those of us who work here do so demanding a very specific level, excellence.”

Plain white T-shirts and black and white socks without any patterns; navy blue pyjamas, plain white underwear, a large plain white towel, black shower slippers, discreet coloured swimming goggles. Important: discreet running trainers with good cushioning and gel insoles. A sewing kit with needles, a thimble, black, white and blue thread. A shoe cleaning kit with black and white shoe polish, rags and brushes; and a personal hygiene kit. A small padlock for the locker and a clothing marker with the corresponding number. It is noted that students are given trainers, but it is recommended that they bring a pair that they are already used to for this first phase of reception. The dress code, as at the Zaragoza Academy, is strict. There will be various field uniforms, fireproof clothing, blue work clothes, safety boots and field boots for manoeuvres.
As a third-grade student, Princess Leonor will have some flexibility to leave school with her classmates when it is stipulated and also to sit in the dining room with whomever she chooses.
The wake-up call will be at 6:45 in the morning. Early mornings are not foreign to him after an academic year in Zaragoza. Washing and breakfast and at 7:20 the study begins.
