Diego López: “Happiness will be complete when we go up”

After training, the three players who have renewed their contracts, Diego López, Dídac Vilà and Wu Lei, have explained on Espanyol TV their desire to regain the category with effort on the pitch. The Galician goal, who aims to be the first captain, summed it up in one sentence: “We are three mainstays and we must be very united.” Both Dídac and Wu lei will be pillars next season both in the dressing room and on the field.

“Absolute happiness is when I see this club again in the Primera,” explained Diego López, whose renewal has gone through different phases. From praising her to being seduced by an offer from Celta to finally committing themselves. “I have made both collective personal self-criticism and that should help us not to make the mistakes of this year again. The commitment is firm,” he proclaimed. The meta, who will turn 39 in November, will be one of the oldest in the category.

Dídac is not so veteran although he made his debut with Espanyol in the 2009-10 campaign. The one in Mataró has taken root in this last stage and has renewed for two more courses. “Since Monday I see everyone with the same objective, we are convinced we will fight it from the beginning,” he said, with a completely renewed spirit after the relegation hit.

Finally, Wu Lei, called to be an outstanding player and with better finishing statistics in Second Division, was also seduced by the Premier League. Behind the Chinese striker there is a mammoth country, candy for any club. But he is clear that Espanyol is his club in Europe: “If I can continue wearing this shirt, I will fight to the fullest. We have to contribute more. The only objective is to go up,” he stressed.
