David Villa: “A positive result in El Clásico would change the discontent of the last week”

MADRID, 14 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former FC Barcelona player David Villa assured this Friday that “a positive result” for the Barça team in El Clásico “would change the discontent” of the Catalan team “from last week”, with the ‘prick’ in the Champions League against Inter Milan .

“Obviously, when the results prior to El Clásico are not good, they can affect you. I hope not, it’s another competition. A positive result in El Clásico would change the discontent of the last week,” said the former Asturian striker at the La Barra event. of the Encounters organized by Mahou.

Thus, Villa stressed that “everything that has happened in previous results always influences” a game like this, which will host the Santiago Bernabéu this Sunday (4:15 p.m.). “Although when the referee whistles, it’s a new story and anything can happen,” he said.

“Dynamics are important, but we have seen that a team that came in more detrimental has taken the result ahead and vice versa. Barça has been playing a great role from the start and must try to erase that bad trajectory in the Champions League to continue with the good in the league,” he added.

The former player valued Barça’s performance in the Champions League, with defeats against Bayern and Inter, “two great teams”, which make qualifying for the crosses “complicated”. “There have been games in which he deserved much more. The other day was a game that was a little crazy because of the need to win. The rivals have been more effective than them and they are in a complicated situation, even though I am not a mathematician yet,” he commented on a “slump in results” in the Catalan team.

The Asturian lamented that the whistles and criticism of footballers “will always happen”, about the shouts at Gerard Piqué. “When things don’t go well, there are always players and coaches who stand out, it’s the maelstrom of football. Individually they will handle it in the best possible way and try to turn it around”, he stated.

Asked about Joao Félix’s moment at Atlético de Madrid, Villa advised the Portuguese to “work hard” to achieve his “reward”. “Atleti have a great squad and it’s not easy to be a starter, with Correa, Griezmann, Morata, Cunha… ‘Cholo’ is the one who decides and sees them. He’s a very young boy, if he gives everything he has, Better times will come”, he pointed out regarding the performance of the striker, who has five consecutive substitutions between club and national team.

Finally, Villa pointed out that he does not believe that the players think about the World Cup to arrive physically well. “You have it in your head when it approaches, but when the game starts it is impossible to think that in three days you will have something,” he settled, after confessing that he would give the Ballon d’Or to Karim Benzema.
