MADRID, 5 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish beach volleyball couple made up of Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno won the silver medal this Saturday at the European Championship held in Vienna, after falling in the final (21-12, 21-13) against the Swiss Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner.
The Madrid and Asturian were one step away from gold but achieved a silver progression, after being European Under-22 champions and fourth in the absolute last year. The Spanish duo was the sensation on the courts of the Red Bull Arena on Danube Island, taking it one step further this Saturday.
Álvarez and Moreno began the day by securing the continental medal by beating Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Mäder, also from Switzerland, in the semifinals, coming back from the match with great epicness after losing the first set in a tight 27-25.
The Spanish couple, despite being 21 years old, demonstrated quality and experience so as not to collapse and even come out stronger in the second set, which they scored 21-17. In the ‘tie-break’ and in the rain, they got a ticket to dream where Hüberli and Brunner were superior, but without clipping the wings of a Spanish couple who are the future of beach volleyball.
