Daniel Hierrezuelo from Malaga has been appointed this Thursday the new director of refereeing for the Euroleague, a new responsibility for which he has also announced his retirement as a referee, after a 28-year career in ACB competitions and more than 950 Endesa League games refereed , according to a statement.
“The Euroleague has decided to appoint a new director of officiating, Daniel Hierrezuelo, who has been a Euroleague referee for 20 seasons,” the competition announced in a statement.
Hierrezuelo, who replaces the British Richard Stokes, is the referee with the seventh most games refereed in competitions organized by the Euroleague since the year 2000, with a total of 448 games, 340 in the Euroleague and 208 in the Eurocup.
On the occasion of this new professional challenge, the Malaga referee announced his retirement from refereeing after 28 years directing matches in ACB competitions and a total of 952 matches in the Endesa League.
“I am ending my career as a referee with more than 30 years of dedication to this profession that has given me so much and that I have enjoyed so much. I will assume this new role as a manager with great enthusiasm and desire to work to give the best in this new stage “, he expressed in a note.
Finally, the ACB thanked him for his “work and professionalism throughout an extensive and successful career” as a referee and wished him “the best of luck in his new role.”
