Dani Olmo: “The national team transmits enthusiasm and the best is always yet to come”

MADRID, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish forward Dani Olmo assured this Tuesday that a “fundamental group” was created in the national team in the last Euro Cup, held in 2021 due to the pandemic, which is why he warned that “it is important to be united”, although he stressed that the project current “transmits enthusiasm” and predicted that “the best is always yet to come.”

“We have a young team that has had the opportunity to play in big tournaments and we are ambitious. I think the project and what is seen in each concentration conveys enthusiasm but we have to continue, because the best is always yet to come,” declared Olmo in the new installment of ‘ICONOS’ on DAZN.

The German RB Leipzig player assured that the club’s objective is to “compete” in a Bundesliga monopolized by Bayern Munich for 11 years. “I am ambitious and I want to compete against the best teams, Bayern is one of them. It is difficult, because they have a high-quality team with world-class players, but I think we have the team to be up there,” he warned.

Olmo has not played with the German team since he was injured in the match between Spain and Georgia during the last international break, although his start to the season is very positive, with 6 goals and 1 assist in 5 games. For the man from Terrassa, his performance improves as a midfielder, where he feels “more comfortable”, “behind the ‘9’”.

“Teams are playing less and less with a ’10’, as they are looking for more ‘box to box’ midfielders, but at Leipzig it is the opposite, we play with even two. It’s a shame, but there are still elite ones like De Bruyne or Modric,” he praised.

In that area, the one who “surprised” Olmo the most is the Brazilian Neymar, against whom he faced in the Champions League semifinals in Lisbon in 2020. “It was incredible. I’m not going to say that he beat us alone, but the whole team football passed through his boots. In that position between the lines he created everything and it was spectacular,” he concluded.
