Dani Olmo: “Barça showed up with a lot of desire, the team will last for many years”

MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

New FC Barcelona player Dani Olmo sees a good future project in the Blaugrana team, “a great team” to “win titles”, amidst the excitement and “dream” of having returned home this season with his signing.

“I’m happy, I was really looking forward to it. I’m an ambitious person who always wants to win, and that’s what Barça is all about. Barça is my home, I have all my family here, my friends, and returning like this is special,” said the man from Terrassa in an interview published Thursday by Barça One, as reported by Europa Press.

Olmo looked back on his childhood at La Masia, his move to Croatia and Germany, and his return home, as well as his development on the pitch. “I have grown, being away from home makes you grow, you improve, it’s another world. I arrived at La Masia when I was very young, you learn a lot of things, I was in Croatia, in Germany. The footballer grows in many aspects but the idea and the game remain the same,” he says.

“It was a dream for me to return home and how the club helped. It was an objective, a dream, there were other options, but Barça came along with a lot of desire. Returning home was a dream and I have been able to make it come true. It is a motivation to have the opportunity to play in the new Camp Nou, it is also a dream to be able to break it in and we hope it brings us a lot of joy,” he added.

On the other hand, Olmo, who sees himself more as a midfielder, has confidence in a good connection with Lamine Yamal, and players with whom he was a European champion with the national team this summer. “I’ve been able to play with them in the national team and it makes it easier. Here I’ll play with more players, we have a great team. I’m coming in well, motivated,” he comments.

“I knew Fermín and Gavi, now I can share the first team dressing room, it’s the dream as La Masia players. Lamine is an innate talent, an incredible player, a very healthy person in the dressing room. I get along very well with him and he will be a good connection for Spotify Camp Nou,” he added.

Olmo, who started playing more on the wing when he was a junior, highlighted the work of the Barça youth team. “The work, the idea, the philosophy and everything that Barça transmits is reflected in La Masia, the values that they transmit can be seen at each stage and they are improving by leaps and bounds. When I was there there were many players, but now there are many more who have been able to reach the first team and compete at this level, with guarantees,” he confesses.

The former Leipzig player of the last four years also said that he hopes to get on well with Hansi Flick. “I have had experience with German coaches, each one is different, coaches who have influenced my career, but Hansi also speaks English and there will be no problem with communication,” he said.

Finally, Olmo sent a message to the Barça fans. “They are very ambitious players, the whole team. Rest assured, we have a team for many years, we are eager to start this season, win titles and we are going to go for it, always to win,” he concluded.
