The side Dani Alves, from Sao Paulo, is absent indefinitely at the start of the Brazilian Championship after suffering a fracture in his arm for which he will undergo surgery this Thursday, the São Paulo club reported.
Alves, 37, suffered an injury to his right forearm on Wednesday night after an accidental blow during the match against Atlético Paranaense, which Sao Paulo defeated 1-0 at the Morumbí stadium and brought him up to the third position of the table.
The player received immediate care at the stadium and was later taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed the fracture and the need for surgery.
According to the club, the Sao Paulo leader will enter the operating room today, where a plate will be placed to correct the fracture.
The shirt 10 of the tricolor will be removed from the courts indefinitely, since the recovery period cannot yet be stipulated, according to José Sánchez, the club's doctor.
The former Barcelona player will miss next Sunday the classic scheduled against Corinthians on the fifth day of the tournament.
This is the first time that Alves will be absent from the pitch due to injury since joining Sao Paulo in August last year.
