The Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has assured that “winning a World Cup” with Portugal was “the biggest and most ambitious dream” of his career, but that this “is over” with the elimination at the hands of Morocco in the quarterfinals of the Cup of the World of Qatar, in addition to wishing that “time is a good adviser” and that it allows “everyone to draw their own conclusions”.
“Winning a World Cup with Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately I won many titles of international dimension, including with Portugal, but putting the name of our country on the highest threshold in the world was my biggest dream,” he said. in a post on the social network Instagram.
In this sense, he stressed that he fought “a lot for that dream.” “In the five World Cup appearances in which I scored over the course of 16 years, always alongside great players and supported by millions of Portuguese, I gave my all. I left everything on the field. I never turned my face to the fight and I never gave up on that dream,” he said.
“Unfortunately, yesterday the dream ended. It’s not worth reacting hotly. I just want everyone to know that a lot was said, that a lot was written, that a lot was speculated, but my dedication to Portugal did not change for an instant. I was always one more fighting for everyone’s goal and I would never turn my back on my teammates and my country,” he continued.
The Portuguese attacker experienced one of the most turbulent World Cups of his career. During his stay in Qatar, he ended his relationship with Manchester United, and in the last two matches of the ‘tugas’, in the round of 16 against Switzerland and in the quarterfinal against Morocco, he was a substitute.
“For now, there is not much more to say. Thank you, Portugal. Thank you, Qatar. The dream was beautiful while it lasted. Now, we must hope that time will be a good adviser and that it will allow each one to draw their conclusions”, he concluded.
