Cristiano is only eight goals away from going down in history

Cristiano Ronaldo has smashed countless scoring records but this week he could hit one of the biggest. If he scores eight more goals for Portugal, he will become the top scorer in football history at the national level. His account is at 101 and that of Iranian Ali Daei at 109.

Top scorers in the history of the national teams

Pto. Player (Country) Goals Matches
one. Ali Daei (Iran) 109 149
two. Cristiano (Portugal) 101 165
3. Ferenc Puskás (Hungary) 84 89
Four. Kunishige Kamamoto (Japan) 80 84
5. Godfrey Chitalu (Zambia) 79 108
6. Hussein Saeed (Iraq) 78 137
7. Pelé (Brazil) 77 92
8. Sándor Kocsis (Hungary) 75 68
Bashar Abdullah (Kuwait) 75 133
10. Majed Abdullah (A. Saudi) 71 106
Kiatisuk Senamuang (Thailand) 71 132
Miroslav Klose (Germany) 71 137

Reviewing the list gives more value if possible to these figures taking into account that Cristiano is the only one of the top ten, along with Klose, to achieve it in a great selection of this century. Football has evolved into an increasingly difficult game and proof of this is that Juventus, being indisputably (only Pelé could raise his voice) better scorer than all of them, has needed more games (165) than the other nine.

The Portuguese arrives in good shape and rested. His last game was ten days ago and he celebrated a double against Roma. The last experience against Spain in Russia 2018 could not be better individually after scoring three goals, but in fact that has been the only confrontation against the now selection of Luis Enrique in which he has scored. Before that, he had already met his rival tonight in Euro 2004, South Africa, a friendly in 2010 and Euro 2012 ending the nineties to zero.
