Corona leads Porto to the lead

A solitary goal by the Mexican Jesús Corona in the sixth minute of the game has given Porto the victory over the Marítimo, a victory that allows Sérgio Conceição's men to be placed as solo leaders with 63 points after today's puncture by Benfica in Portimão ( 2-2).

The game turned upside down for the local team practically as soon as it started.

Wilson Manafá used his strength to hang a throw-in directly into the area, which found the head of former Real Madrid player Pepe, who combed it as best he could so that the ball ended up reaching Corona, who finished off in the half-turn with the right overcoming above a misplaced Charles.

From there, the Maritime reacted well, without granting too many occasions, but with little danger facing the rival door, with just one shot on goal in ninety minutes.

The good defensive work of Marítimo could have come to nothing just on the brink of rest, with two clear chances from Sérgio Oliveira and, above all, from Danilo Pereira, the latter after a great cross from the Brazilian Alex Telles who would be the protagonist at the end of the crash by his expulsion after double yellow.

Although the second half was orphan of goals, those of “do Dragão” could be complicated in the final stretch of the clash: Alex Telles allowed Edgar Costa to snatch the ball over the center line and grabbed him to prevent what could have been a dangerous counter, which was the second yellow for the side and his premature departure to the locker room.

Porto had to put up with 10 what was left and his inferiority could cost him dearly when, in the discount, Xadas finished off a good cross from Edgar Costa in the area, who was everywhere, but the Portuguese found no goal and the referee Tiago Martins decreed the end.

The locals managed to win solo leaders with 63 points, two more than the 61 of Benfica who could only add one for their 2-2 against Portimonense (they went on to win 0-2).

For its part, the Maritime remains fifteenth with 25 points and only five from the descent, which are precisely those of Portimão.
