The agrarian organization COAG of Castilla y León has denounced this Wednesday, through a statement, that Real Madrid “may ruin” hundreds of farmers and “many of them club fans” for their defense of artificial meat, after signing a sponsorship agreement with Meatless Farm, a British plant food company.
In your press release, COAG (Coordinator of Organizations of Farmers and Ranchers) refers to the fact that the white club has signed this sponsorship with the aforementioned brand of vegetable meat and after that it adds, in its opinion, “to the growing demonization of authentic meat with claims that denigrate it, without providing any scientific evidence.”

COAG Castilla y León considers that it is an image operation carried out “with frivolity”, while the socioeconomic consequences that such a decision may have have not been measured, something that it qualifies as an “unforgivable slip” for a club of the size of the Real Madrid
According to COAG, the Real Madrid “it touches” farmers and ranchers, since a study proves that this sector is the second largest group of fans since “almost 60 percent of farmers and ranchers are football fans and, of them, almost a 33 percent of soccer fans in Spain are from Real Madrid, and 24 percent from Barcelona. “
COAG remember that the Real Madrid has posted on its website the following comment, after signing the new sponsorship with the British brand: “Both organizations will establish a joint commitment to work to raise awareness in society about the importance of reducing meat consumption to minimize the environmental impact of the food”.
Finally, in this context, the agrarian organization underlines that the Spanish meat sector has a turnover of 26,882 million euros, 4.2 percent of business turnover and 2.2 percent of gross domestic product, and that employs 97,076 workers, which account for 23 percent of all food employment.
