MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
English footballer Conor Gallagher will strengthen Atlético de Madrid until 2029 after his transfer to Chelsea FC was agreed on Wednesday, a club he has belonged to since his professional debut and where he has established himself as one of the most promising midfielders on the international scene, even playing in the last European Championship.
The 24-year-old midfielder has made 95 appearances in the last two seasons for the Blues, scoring ten goals and providing ten assists. He joined the London side’s academy at the age of eight, training until his debut in 2022. Before that, he gained experience at clubs such as Charlton Athletic in the Championship and Swansea City, in the same division, with whom he played in the 2019/20 season.
The following season he played on loan at West Bromwich Albion, making his Premier League debut and scoring two goals and providing two assists in 32 games. His last loan before returning to Chelsea’s first team was at Crystal Palace, with whom he played 39 games, scoring eight goals and providing five assists, and being named the ‘Eagles’ best player in the 2021/22 season.
After playing in the youth ranks of the English national team, Gallagher made his senior debut in 2022 and this summer he went to the European Championship in Germany. He played five games in that tournament, but did not score or provide any assists, and was always a substitute in the ‘Three Lions’ team, which lost the final to Spain.
He was also called up in the autumn of 2022 for the World Cup in Qatar, although he did not play a single minute. Gallagher, who has so far worn the England shirt 18 times, is Atlético’s fourth summer signing, after Spanish centre-back Robin Le Normand and two forwards, Norwegian Alexander Sorloth and Argentine Julián Álvarez.
