Clubs enter €400M of CVC before the end of the market

The rain of millions in the coffers of the Spanish clubs is already a fact. LaLiga has already made the first payment of 400 million euros from the Impulso Project signed with the investment fund CVC. Another payment of 298 million will be made in February. This step is taken after receiving the approval of the European Union to the operation between the fund and the Spanish employers. An extraordinary income that arrives in the last weeks of the winter market. Although its use will be limited.

In this agreement, the investment fund promised to invest 1,994 million euros. Said amount will be deposited in the First and Second clubs, with the exception of Athletic, Barcelona, Ibiza and Real Madrid who voted against, in four installments. The first, of about 400 million euros and expected for December, after the signing of the agreement between clubs and CVC, has arrived this Thursday. Just days after receiving the last approval necessary for the operation to go ahead. That of the European Union. “The clubs will now be able to start making the development plans that they have previously presented to LaLiga a reality and that will allow them to achieve a 20-year advance in the organization’s modernization processes,” assures LaLiga.

It will be on February 1 when the constitution of the LaLiga Group holding company will become a reality, in which the employer will transfer the bulk of its activity to the investment fund. “CVC will have an 8% stake for the next 50 years. At that time, LaLiga clubs will receive another 298 million euros”, adds the employer that presides over Thebes.

This money will be controlled from the bosses. Of the total received by each club, 75% must be used to improve infrastructure and brand development; 15% to debt and another 15% for signings. Although these percentages could vary in some justified cases, as long as it is approved by the Delegate Commission of LaLiga. That is to say, the clubs will only be able to use 15% of that money to sign or salaries of soccer players. And it arrives just when there is little more than a week and a half left in the transfer market. What could help the clubs that have signed up for this operation to carry out an operation.

Now, although all the clubs hoped to carry out this agreement, they are still attentive to the movements of the clubs that voted against it. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic announced that they would go to court to invalidate the agreement. “The funds trust the Spanish LaLiga. With the entry of CVC, the clubs are worth 30% more. If those 2,000 million do not enter, we are reserving the League industry for the two great clubs in this country. If we do not do this, we are leaving down. In France they are already studying an option like this”, defended Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, last week.
