City lose Rodrigo and save the lead against Arsenal

MADRID, 22 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Manchester City saved a draw (2-2) against Arsenal this Sunday in the fifth match of the Premier League thanks to a goal from John Stones in the 98th minute, thus maintaining the lead in a direct duel where they regretted the possible knee injury of Rodrigo.

The train crash at the Etihad Stadium had everything and left no one happy. Perhaps a little more so for City, who managed to equalise at the last minute after completely besieging an Arsenal side that was left with one less player at the end of the first half due to a controversial second yellow card for Leandro Trossard.

Pep Guardiola’s side started perfectly and, after ten minutes, they translated into the 1-0 with Erling Haaland, who finished with quality his tenth goal in five games after a great play by Savinho. Shortly after, the afternoon began to go wrong for City with the injury to the right knee of the Spaniard Rodrigo.

The blue team left the field very worried and, in the minute, Riccardo Calafiori, in his first start for the ‘gunners’, scored a great goal to make it 1-1. In stoppage time, Gabriel scored from a corner kick (1-2), a classic for this team, but Arsenal also suffered an unwelcome turn with the expulsion of Trossard for throwing the ball after committing a foul.

With one man less, Mikel Arteta’s men defended throughout the second half and held their ground from the saves of the Spanish goalkeeper David Raya. With the tension mounting, Stones hunted down the equaliser in the area in the last play, so that City remain top and save their unbeaten record with 13 points, compared to Arsenal’s 11, while Liverpool and Aston Villa are on 12.

In the other Premier League match on Sunday, Brighton and Nottingham Forest drew (2-2) in the south of England, where the visiting team Gibbs-White and the two coaches, Fabian Hurzeler and Nuno Espirito Santo, saw red at the end.
