Ciccone overtakes dynamic duo Roglic-Evenepoel and crowns Vallter

BARCELONA, 21 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian cyclist Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo) won the second stage of the Volta a Catalunya on Tuesday, played between Mataró and Vallter over 165.4 kilometers, and surprised the two great contenders in this 102nd Catalan round, the still leader Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step).

Ciccone held on at all times at the head of the group of favourites, no matter who shot. When Remco Evenepoel, brave, began to shoot and change the rhythm on several occasions, the Italian always came out on top, just like Roglic.

In the end, the Italian found a gap between the dynamic duo of this Volta and in the last corner he took advantage to use his top speed to sprint and win. Roglic, second, continues to lead and Evenepoel, third in the finish line and second overall, will have to try it again this Wednesday at the top of La Molina.
