Chicharito sinks champion New York City

The Mexican Javier “Chicharito” Hernández knocked down New York City, current champion, with a great goal in the 90th minute that gave the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-0 win, on a Sunday MLS day in which the Venezuelan Josef Martínez provided two assists, one of them a heel, to power Atlanta United’s 3-1 victory against Sporting Kansas City.

The Sunday program of the first day of the MLS also saw the Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese keep a clean sheet in Orlando City’s victory against Montreal, and a decisive goal from Panamanian Anibal Godoy for Nashville’s valuable victory in the field of Seattle Sounders.

CHICHARITO, LEADER

Chicharito continues to be the light of the Galaxy and, after scoring 17 goals in 21 games last year, and being the top scorer of the preseason, he decided with a great goal in the 90th minute the appointment with the current champions of New York.

The Mexican striker, a former player for Real Madrid, Sevilla or Manchester United, gave the Galaxy an important win to feed their ambitions to fight, at least, for a place in the playoffs.

Last year, despite being full of expectations, was a disappointment for the Angelenos, who did not get the ticket for the final phase of the MLS.

“Winning at the last minute is always a very nice taste,” said “Chicharito” at the post-match press conference, in which he stressed that he is “at the service of the team” and is committed to helping the Galaxy that look to the playoffs as the main objective.

SAILING HAT TRICK

And it is that this first day of the MLS had the colors of the Mexican flag, because this Saturday Carlos Vela, leader of Los Angeles FC, debuted with a spectacular triplet against the Colorado Rapids.
