Carvalhal: “Vinicius will be the best player in the world”

The Celta coach explained why he asked Militao for the shirt

MADRID, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The RC Celta coach, Carlos Carvalhal, acknowledged that Real Madrid deserved victory this Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu but he was left with his team fighting “until the end”, who improved in the second half but couldn’t with a ” super team” in which Vinicius will be “the best player in the world”.

“Madrid did a lot to win and they deserved it. Our plan worked for 20 minutes, we didn’t keep the ball, we had a lot of losses. Madrid had more chances. In the second half we conceded the second goal at the start, it cost us a lot but we improved. The team fought until the end. Normally we don’t miss the chances we had”, he stated at a press conference.

The Portuguese coach, who confessed that they have to pay “more attention to set pieces”, pointed out that they are still in a good line despite having gone four games without winning. “I don’t think we have gone down after the break. We played against a super team and we had a good posture. We have to keep what we were doing,” he said.

On the other hand, Carvalhal explained his moment with Militao, whom he knows from Porto, by asking him for his shirt on the pitch. “I had told him before the game that he was the best defender in the world and he scored against me, I gave him morale, I should have told him that he was the worst. It doesn’t look very good for a coach to take the shirt on the field. I have asked for two in my race, that of Petr Cech and another to Militao. I do it because my son has asked me, I don’t care if it is good or not”, he stated.

In addition, the Vigo coach confessed that he hopes Gabri Veiga will take “a step forward” in the coming games after suffering a gastrointestinal problem last week and was asked by Vinicius. “In the short term, he is going to be the best player in the world, and he is one of the best without a doubt,” he pointed out, explaining that they had prepared help on the wing knowing the difficulty that it would entail to stop him.

Finally, Carvalhal explained that the intensity was not bad for his team, but that Madrid makes it seem worse. “The way Real Madrid plays it’s difficult to have a lot of intensity. They have a lot of the ball, due to the need to close spaces. You can notice that a bit,” he finished, lamenting the poor condition of the pitch.
