Carlos Garach breaks the Spanish record in the 400 freestyle at the Sabadell Open

The Andalusian swimmer Carlos Garach was proclaimed Spanish champion of the 400 freestyle this Wednesday at the Astralpool Spanish Open Winter Championships in Sabadell, where he established a new national record eight years later.

Garach, who holds the 1,500m record, added the 400m freestyle with a mark of 3:47.98, for the 3:48.96 that Miguel Durán had credited since 2016. In addition, the women's 200m breaststroke left a great fight and the podium formed by Emma Carrasco (2:24.58) followed by two icons of Spanish swimming such as Jessica Vall and Marina García.

Also in the female category, the national gold in the 50 butterfly went to World Cup winner Paula Juste, ahead of Alba Guillamón by one hundredth and Amaya Cdaya by five. In the men's final, it was also very close, so much so that the gold was shared by Alberto Lozano and Teo del Riego.

The women's 50 backstroke was won by the Canadian Olympic medalist Kylie Masse, with a championship record of 27.23, and the national podium was made up of Mireia Pradell (28.24), Tamara Frías and Sara Costa (29.04), the best national mark for 14 years. World Cup winner Adrián Santos won the men's event.

On the other hand, the Belgian Valentine Dumont was the fastest in the 400 freestyle, ahead of Paula Otero, Ángela Martínez and Carla Carrón. The first day of the finals in Sabadell ended with the mixed 4×100 medley, with a podium formed by CE Mediterrani (3:48.85) who broke the RFEN club record – a Spanish record – with Kylie Masse, Álex Ramos, Patrick Pelegrina and Valentine Dumont. CN Sant Andreu and CN Terrassa completed the podium.
