Carlos Carvalhal leaves Celta

MADRID, 10 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Portuguese coach Carlos Carvalhal will not continue at the helm of RC Celta next season, the Galician club announced this Saturday, confirming that they have reached an agreement to terminate his contract.

“RC Celta and Carlos Carvalhal have terminated their contractual relationship as coach of the Celtic first team,” the entity from Vigo reported. The Portuguese coach, who took over the bench seven months ago, had one year left on his contract.

Carvalhal arrived in Vigo in November to take charge of the team after the dismissal of Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet, which left the team in sixteenth place with just one point of income above the relegation places.

After a hesitant start, the Portuguese managed to ward off the danger with a run of seven league games without losing, but the poor results in recent weeks, in which the sky-blue team only won two of their last 12 games, condemned him.

Precisely, the victory of the last day against FC Barcelona (2-1), thanks to a double by Gabri Veiga, signed salvation for Celta, who dismissed the thirteenth season with 43 points, three above the danger zone .

“The club wishes to express its most sincere gratitude to Carvalhal and his assistants for the professionalism and honesty they have shown since their arrival in Vigo last November. From RC Celta we wish the Portuguese coach the best of luck in his professional and personal future, In addition to thanking his work and dedication shown daily during these eight months”, declared the club.
