Carlos Alcaraz will play the ninety-seventh edition of the Copa del Reywhich will be held next June in Huelva, the organizers of the tournament and the mayor of the city of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz, announced this Thursday.
The Murcian athlete, recent winner of the Master 1000 in Miami (USA), heads an outstanding poster, which includes other names like the top 20 Pablo Carreño and the junior Diego Rincón.
“We will have in Huelva the sensation of world tennis today, a young man who can mark an era and at only 18 years old is in eleventh place in the ATP rankingwins whole as successor of Rafa Nadal”, declared the mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz.
For his part, the president of the Royal Tennis Recreational Club, Federico Sánchez de la Campa, insisted on “such an important leap in quality” that the Copa del Rey is going to take this year with “the largest budget in its history”, thanks to the sponsorship of institutions and companies, and especially “the fundamental support of the Huelva City Council”.
“We have been working hard for three months to organize the best tournament possible, thanks to this support,” said the president, which announced as novelties in this edition “the tournament will be held on track 2 instead of on 1, trying to reach a capacity of 2,500 people”.
